Diabetes Insights Dashboard – Power BI, DAX, SQL, Data Modeling
Overview
This project explores diabetes prevalence and related health risk factors using the BRFSS 2015 health survey dataset (over 250,000 records and 21 variables). The goal was to build an interactive Power BI dashboard that visualizes how demographic, lifestyle, and medical factors influence diabetes outcomes. The dashboard is designed for public health professionals to identify high-risk groups and monitor behavioral trends.
Key Highlights
- Cleaned and modeled BRFSS 2015 dataset using Power Query and SQL.
- Built relationships and DAX measures to calculate KPIs like Diabetes %, Average BMI, and Risk Index.
- Designed a 3-page dashboard: Overview, Drivers of Diabetes, and Health Insights.
- Implemented interactive slicers, navigation buttons, and KPIs for seamless exploration.
- Applied a clean dark-themed layout for readability and visual balance.

Design Notes
- Top KPIs with dynamic filters highlight the overall diabetes prevalence and lifestyle impact.
- Demographic segmentation: Age, Gender, Ethnicity, and Income groups.
- “Drivers” page connects behavioral factors (e.g., physical activity, smoking) with medical outcomes (BMI, Diabetes rate).
- Consistent use of color and DAX-driven KPIs ensure clear storytelling and interactivity.
Tools & Techniques Used
- Power BI: Data modeling, DAX, interactive visuals.
- SQL: Data cleaning and transformation.
